It was nearing the end of Spring Break, but things were not peaceful at all. Rupert Bear, one of Nutwood's most prized law enforces, was notified by the police commissioner Cleese that there were a string of murders reported in Whitechapel.

"That sounds very ghastly, sir", said Rupert. "What were the victims like?" "Reports claim that fashion models, charity volunteers, and what-have-you have been found dead and mutilated. It is rumored that these women have been killed by a fearsome hound."

"Sounds like the work of that incorrigible fiend Dr. Hugo Baskerville", said Rupert. "Before you go, Mr. Bear, I will introduce your partner-of-the-day. He is an American officer that the I.O.G.P.O. has carefully selected to aid you. His name is Inspector Gil Muncose."

Into the commissioner's office stepped a man with a long mustache who wore a blue sleeveless jacket and a red ski cap on his head. "Officer Bear, it is an honor to meet you. I'm on the case with you because one of the I.O.G.P.O.'s informants told me that Baskerville is being aided by another enemy of yours, the heinous Professor Calamari."

"You know Calamari? It's odd how you have a vendetta towards him." "He once visited my hometown and abused his diplomatic immunity, framing an innocent bystander for his crime so that it wouldn't get revoked. I know that you shouldn't be consumed by revenge, but I'm not resting until Calamari gets what he deserves!"

"I trust that you will be tolerating our place's customs", Rupert said. "Yes, I will. I sometimes wish that being narrow-minded was a serious offense. Who is this little man?" "He is my son George. I know it may seem odd that he is coming with us, but he is a prodigy and he has the skills necessary to stay out of trouble. The world can be a very dangerous place sometimes, and we all know that you have to be tough to survive."

The three went on to Whitechapel to investigate the murders. Dr. Baskerville was not pleased by their arrival. "You tentacled twit! Soon those three crumpet-heads will find out that my hound is to blame for the murders!" "Silence, my accomplice. There is no need to worry about those cretins interfering with our master plan. Let the Stapletons take care of them!"

Rupert got a good look at one of the bodies. "That sick monster! How does he sleep at night doing this? Inspector Gil, do you think you can find some clues as to who did this horrendous misdeed?" "I can. I'll get started by asking the locals if they saw anything suspicious."

"That's using your noggin! Son, did you learn anything interesting in school recently?" "I sure did, father. Before the break began, we did learn about the Whitechapel murders of 1888. There's no telling who Jack the Ripper could have been. Not to mention how his crimes were a perfect example of how two wrongs don't make a right."

"What do you mean, my boy?" "I feel a little embarrassed to discuss it, seeing that I am just barely a teenager, but it was pretty monstrous to mutilate and kill women for being, how do I put this, ladies of the evening."

"You are my flesh and blood. You can tell me anything you want without shame. And it seems Inspector Gil has something to tell us." "This local couple called the Stapletons claimed to have seen who killed the victims, and they want us to come inside before they tell us who did it."

"Well, I'm never one to turn down a person's hospitality. Let's see what they know!" Mr. Stapleton said "My wife and I were just minding out own business in this fine place when we heard horrendous screaming. We looked out the window and saw a brutish hound being guided by a tall and mysterious man in a hat. It was dark, so we couldn't make out who did it."

"But we can't give you any more information", said "Mrs." Stapleton. "We are not what we appear to be! We're actually brother and sister, and we use the husband and wife image to bait gullible cops like you into our lethal traps!"

Inspector Gil disarmed Ms. Stapleton and handcuffed her. Rupert did the same with Mr. Stapleton. "Tell us, Stapletons. Where are your employers?" "We can't tell you. It's not because they'd kill us or anything. We really don't know where they are!"

"Well, if we can't find Baskerville and Calamari, I guess we'll have to make Baskerville and Calamari come to us." The three went to the local library to discuss their tactics. "Like all serial killers, Dr. Baskerville is deliberately following a pattern. He's only going after fashion models and charity volunteers, so I surmise he is targeting women who are prideful and free of shame, though I see unfortunate implications if the killing spree is meant to emulate Jack the Ripper's murdering of prostitutes. On another note, I'm afraid wrapping up this case will require the ultimate sacrifice."

"What do you mean, Rupert", asked Inspector Gil. "We need a woman to bait the criminals into our trap. I doubt any woman here would be willing to be bait or fit the criteria of the previous victims, so one of us must disguise ourselves as a woman within the region of this nation who is a likely target and confirmed to still be alive."

"I'll disguise myself as the bait", Inspector Gil offered. "I will do anything to book Calamari!" George Bear did some research and found the perfect disguise for Inspector Gil. "Miss Gwendolyn Lyons has modeled the clothes manufactured by the world's leading designers and has posed for at least a dozen charity calendars. She is currently engaged with Nigel Barrymore, a wealthy bachelor descended from a proud line of tailors."

"Thank goodness for what innocence you have remaining that the article's pictures are SFW. Okay, Inspector Gil. We got a pair of crooks to catch!" "Have any of you fine gents seen my brother Hugo", asked a man who resembled Dr. Baskerville, but shorter and less hideous.

"Who are you", Inspector Gil asked. "My name is Henry Baskerville. Hugo Baskerville is my older brother, and I have tried for years to talk him into going straight, but every time I talk to that unempathetic brother of mine, it's like I am talking to my own elbow!"

"We would be glad if you can escort our disguised partner", said Rupert. "Someone will have to hold off the hound when it strikes!"

And so the disguised Inspector Gil walked through the streets of Whitechapel with Henry following him. The hound attacked the two, but Henry hit it in the face with a rolled-up newspaper while saying "Bad dog, Mittens! No biscuits for you!" The hound whimpered and ran away.

"You spoilsport", Dr. Baskerville screamed. "You goody two-shoes always had to ruin my fun!" "It isn't too late to change your ways, brother. You can still say no to crime." "But crime is too much fun."

Rupert and Gil both handcuffed Baskerville and Calamari, while saying in unison "You are under arrest." The two crooks were carried off to prison along with the Stapletons. "You were a good partner, Gil. We could not have done it without you."

"I give you my thanks as well. Now that I've seen Calamari apprehended, I will go back home. See you guys around!"

The End
In this latest installment of Rupert Bear's adult adventures, Dr. Baskerville has returned to terrorize Whitechapel, London.

Baskerville is assisted by Professor Calamari, but Rupert and George Bear have their own backup in the form of an American cop named Inspector Gil Muncose.
